Hi,

I wrote and indicated that Cornell may be interested in Year Two of this project if they find funding for it.

Hi Tony -

Thanks for writing and thanks for your interest in joining the volunteer sample of Project Information Literacy (PIL). I just added your institution's name to the map that appears on the PIL home page. Check it out!

Please understand that your campus's appearance on the map means your institution has an "expressed interest in study participation;" nothing about your interest in participation is ironclad ;-) If you decide, at some later point, you or your campus does not want to actually participate that is fine and we understand.

Let me tell you where we are with our research activities, so that you have a better idea about what you are volunteering for at this point in time.

In December, we finished up conducting our fall student discussion groups (a sample of 7 institutions for 11 individual group sessions with 86 students). We are planning for the spring student survey (a sample of 3 institutions). We are calling this phase Year One of PIL: A Pilot Study. It is a preliminary work in support of Year Two, our "big push." Last week, we just published a PIL Progress Report, which presents qualitative findings from the student groups.

Now, we are collecting names of institutions interested in participating in our large-scale study for Year Two that would include a student survey and a content analysis of professors' research handouts across a number of different campuses, *if* our funding comes through for Year Two (2009-2010). Your campus has been added this volunteer sample (Year Two).

A proposal for Year Two is now under review with some favorable response, so far, from a large, well known, private grant-making foundation that funds such research. I want to be clear here, we are still awaiting Year Two funding and will not be able to move forward without the funds. Still, we are very hopeful we will receive funding from conversations we have had with the funder, so far.

The fact that your campus and you have an interest is important to us since it shows potential funders we have support "out there" from interested institutions (now with your institution our volunteer sample is n=61) and their dedicated librarians and faculty.

Many thanks for your interest and let me know if I can be of additional help.

All my best,

- Alison
